Cape Cod Fishing Reports

Summer
July 3, 2017

Boy, yesterday was really the first true summer day, beautiful. A lot of boats out, fish were scattered from bath house to down the backside, mostly 28-32 inch, the big fish were hiding in the afternoon. Hopefully the commercial boys will go elsewhere today!

Winds
July 1, 2017

Big winds the last week, making yo tough, mostly southerly. Have not heard but Wood End at night should be good with those winds. Still big fish around, even with the commercial boys around every Monday and Thursday. Plenty of 28-32 inch fish. Heard the guys from the beach who fish hard are doing well at the Truro beaches, in the dark though.

Ran into some big fish yesterday, live mackerel, hope the commercial fleet doesn’t find them today. Honestly first post in awhile where I don’t say where or give hints, just don’t want it being over run with 300 boats!

Still big fish
June 21, 2017

Stacked like cordwood at Race Pt to the high flyer yesterday late afternoon. Rough as hell with a south southwest wind, probably pushed the fish into the beach last night. Hope someone was fishing!

Blitz
June 19, 2017

Race Pt yesterday, three hours non stop from the beach, keeper stripers. Re creation of the Fathers Day blitz of 6-8 years ago.

Tons of fish still all around Ptown, live bait, mackerel and small pollock, up in Ptown Harbor. Umbrella rigs, wire line jigging the old way slaying them.

Tons of southerly wind last few days, cancelled at least four charters. Safety of crew and passengers and boat comes over catching a fish and collecting some money.

Blues
June 12, 2017

Nice schools of bass still hanging around these parts, sometimes hungry sometimes not. Live mackerel, metal, ronz, bill Hurley cape cod sand eels really good. Word is bluefish showed up this afternoon.

June 9, 2017

Some strong northeasterly winds cooled down the water to 48 degrees, resulting in the fish hibernating for a few days. Yesterday there must have been 40 boats from Wood End to Race Pt, all milling around, looking for the fish. We managed a few keepers, including a nice 23 pounder right at the Race Pt rips. Mike from the CeeJay said the fish returned late afternoon, but in deep, deep water.

June 5, 2017

A nice weekend of fishing. Biggest was a hair over 35 pounds, then a couple in the 27 pound range. Tons and tons of fish, but quite honestly they were a little picky. We used live mackerel, topwater, plastics, metals, vertical jigging and they just turned up their noses most of the time. Ton of bait in the water, so they might have been full!

June 1, 2017

Schools of fish still abundant, just have to find out where they are on that given day. A bunch of smaller fish have been by the cottages, 15-30 feet of water. Hatches Harbor pretty consistent as is the area on the ocean side in front of the old coast guard station. Best bet to use spinning gear, either surface plugs or cast and retrieve metal jigs.

A nice charter this afternoon with three ladies from Truro. Caught our keepers over by the drop off at Herring Cove, the fish were attacking the Diawa SP minnows!
